I graduated
with a Bachelors degree in Food and Nutrition from
Jordan University of Science and Technology in Irbid,
Jordan in 2002 and received my MPH in 2004. My love
for dealing with people, helping them, listening
and being able to counsel, educate, and raise awareness
among them was my motivation to pursue my graduate
studies and dietetic internship at Bowling Green
State University in Ohio, where I received my master’s
degree in Food and Nutrition. My area of specialization
was in Childhood Obesity among adolescents (http://www.ohiolink.edu/etd/view.cgi?bgsu1151298508).
After graduation my goal was to further understand
the public health and nutrition problems during
this significant stage. Throughout my academic training
and experience I have practiced the field of clinical
dietetics in both an inpatient and outpatient setting.
In addition to my job at CTED, I practice as a clinical
dietitian at Zeeland Community Hospital. My goal
as a dietitian and nutrition therapist is to promote
general health and well being, preventing disease,
and raising health awareness among my patient population.
On a personal level, I moved to Western Michigan
in 2006 with my husband Firas, who is a professor
at Grand Valley State University. I am involved
in my church. I love chanting and am a member in
the church choir. In my free time, I enjoy cooking,
going for long nature walks, and swimming in beautiful
Lake Michigan.
