Jennifer Wisniewski, MA, LLP Therapist

I earned both my B.S. in Psychology and my B.S. in Criminal Justice, with an emphasis on Juvenile Justice, at Grand Valley State University in 2003. I went on to obtain my M.A. in Counseling Psychology at Western Michigan University and graduated in 2006. I was employed at DeVos Children’s Hospital in the Pediatric Psychology Department, where I administered a battery of neuropsychological tests. My master’s level internship was split between two locations. The first was Pediatric Behavioral Specialists observing individual therapy, administering neuropsychological tests and writing the reports, and doing neurofeedback and biofeedback with children. The second location of my internship was spent at Forest View Hospital where I was able to rotate among the units. During my rotation in the Eating Disorder Unit I discovered that I enjoyed working with individuals suffering from eating disorders. In 2007, I began seeing clients at CTED and leading groups part time, while I was employed at Ottawa County Community Mental Health where I worked with a caseload of Developmentally Disabled adults and children. At this point my focus is on private practice. I divide my time between CTED where I see clients for individual therapy, and lead therapy groups, and Forest Hills Counseling Center where I have a general caseload of clients. I also lead the Support Group held at Forest View Hospital’s community room.

I tend to be eclectic regarding my therapeutic approach, however I tend to pull from the cognitive-behavioral theory and the client-centered approach most often. I attempt to empower the client, encourage the client to create a support network in hie/her life, educate on the negative effects of the eating disorder, help the client to learn more adaptive coping skills, and guide the client to discover who that client is without the eating disorder and what in life makes them passionate and happy.

In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my husband, daughter and stepdaughter, reading, scrapbooking, and taking family walks.
